On Monday, September 1, 2025, the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) and the American Job Center locations will be closed in observance of Labor Day. Please be advised, if you receive unemployment insurance benefits, payments may be delayed due to the DOES and American Job Center locations closure. We will be available to assist you in-person or by telephone on all other weekdays. Thank you.

 
 

Veteran Services

Veterans are entitled to receive a priority in service that includes the following:

  • A 24-hour "Veterans Only" hold on all new job orders that the Department of Employment Services workforce system receives.
  • Placement of qualified veterans' résumés before non-veterans' résumés on job order screens that Employment Developement Department staff or prospective employers view.
  • Assistance from Veterans Specialists who are dedicated to providing priority employment and training services to veterans.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Honorable Discharge (DD-214)

 

The District of Columbia's Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program is funded 100% by a $485,780.00 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
